Executive Director

Liane Scott, Executive Director, is an independent video producer and media instructor based in Washington, DC. When she began her career in New York City, Ms. Scott worked as a production coordinator for the award-winning commercial production house They Shoot Films and as an associate producer at Crest Films, a television production company that produced sports programming for CBS. She later moved back to Washington DC where she began passing on her skills in media production to further the interests and concerns of the community. After several years of working for other nonprofits in the area, she founded Grassroots Media DC.

Operations Manager

Born and Raised in the District of Columbia, Josh has been working with Grassroots DC for the past 8 years and this year joins us as our Content Strategist. They received a BA in Architecture from University of Maryland and hope to use this background in advocating for better housing policy. Ida B. Wells is a source of great journalistic inspiration for them.

Nina is honored to be part of the Grassroots DC team. Her main roles include updating the events page, processing podcast and film audio, and logging film footage. She hopes to deepen her current research and expand her roles to include film production and podcasting. She is excited to continue learning about media and journalism from such an incredible team.

Born in Seneca South Carolina. Raised in Washington D.C. Worked in home improvement and construction. Worked as Manager supervising 17 employees. Now works with Grassroots DC as a videographer and editor and later plans on working on my own film and directing it as well.

ángel thompson is based in Prince George’s County, MD, with familial ties in Washington, D.C. They are a grassroots community organizer with the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement D.C. chapter. ángel is an anti-disciplinary creative and cultural practitioner; they are also the creator of  “Vent About:'' an experimental digital capsule.Their work is reflective of merging different mediums to express their imagination, stories, and political ideologies. In their free time they enjoy doing nothing, reading, playing The Sims 4,  being in nature, cooking, singing off-key, and spending time with loved ones.

Based in Baltimore County, Maryland, Nyakio is a creative who centers on digital media. With Grassroots DC, she strives to use visual media as a tool to help important, complex ideas reach as many people as possible.

Anaïse has a background in multimedia and magazine production and is passionate about finding creative ways to educate and disperse knowledge into communities. Since graduating from Temple University with a B.A. in Media Studies and Production, she has primarily worked with grassroots organizations to create content around social advocacy and calls to action.
